Second Sunday

May 12, 2013 @ 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Hyde Park Art Center celebrates Mother’s Day with free kid-friendly art making activities for the whole family to enjoy—or as a way for dads to give moms a break by getting the kids out of the house for the afternoon.

Workshop 1: Artist Steven Ciampaglia and the Plug-in studio invite you to explore computers and art in celebration of International Scratch Day 2013. What’s Scratch? A free programming language that anybody can use to create video games, interactive stories, animations, music, and art. Instructors will introduce you to Scratch and show you how easy, fun and creative computer programming can be. All ages welcome, no experience necessary.

Workshop 2: Art Center teaching artist Michelle Harris will show you how to build your very own camera. Bring your own shoebox, mailing tube, Pringles tin, or oatmeal can to transform into your own camera design. Learn the science behind how light and your brain interact to develop images while exploring your creativity. For parents and children alike.
