For April’s Second Sunday event, Ann Gaziano will conduct an art making activity called “Printmaking, Patterns and Play,” inspired by the Art Center exhibition 17, a show of hand-screenprinted wallpaper created by artist Cauleen Smith. Like Cauleen, we will make our own prints on paper using original designs and patterns. Each participant will design one motif–an idea or picture that is special and meaningful to you–and then turn it into a fun shaped printing plate. With basic printmaking and design techniques, we’ll learn how to print and repeat our motifs to create a unique and inspired pattern.
Suzanne Sebold will host a workshop called “Patterns in Nature,” where your family can explore simple printmaking techniques such as stamping and relief printing–all based on patterns that occur in nature. Create a simple or complex work of art with a nature theme and explore patterns through geometric shapes.
