Second Sunday

Make Sunday a fun day with the Hyde Park Art Center’s Second Sunday event. Spark your family’s creativity with free art activities!

Join us for a preview screening from the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, the largest film festival for children in North America. The Festival takes place October 26th to November 4th with over 240 films from 51 countries. Hailed as “Cannes for Kids,” the Festival was the first children’s film festival in the world designated as Academy Award qualifying. You are cordially invited to see the best in multicultural films for young audiences – films that will open children’s eyes and minds to new worlds, new people, and new ideas! For more CICFF in Hyde Park, the Logan Center for the Arts will screen films and host workshops on Sunday, October 28 and Saturday, November 3. Visit the CICFF website for more information.

First workshop taught by Aurora Tabar will explore Guatemalan Worry Dolls. Project description: According to Guatemalan legend, worry dolls have the ability to remove worries from sleeping children when placed under their pillows at bedtime. In this workshop, parents and kids alike will create their own collection of brave and colorful worry dolls using fabric, thread, toothpicks and popsicle sticks. Each doll creation is unique. Dolls can be collected, traded, or given away. Appropriate for all ages and skill levels.

For the second workshop teaching artist Suzanne Sebold will explore Paper Arts with a fall leaf theme- making paper pulp leaves and water color paper leaves- .
