Second Sunday we host 3 free family art making activities
Join artist Rhonda Wheatley in a workshop called “Bedazzled Butterflys”. Participants will construct butterflies from a variety of materials.
Steve Ek will demonstrate rolling, bending metal, cutting and welding to make small pieces that can be animals, sculptures, buildings…whatever you imagine!
Rochele Royster will lead “Breathing Through Fiber: Doll Making as Creative Resistance and a Liberatory Act,” an experiential doll making workshop that introduces the use of communal art making practices to build community, heal and resist systemic oppression and community violence.
The heART Project presents Dolls4Peace/ Building a Memorial, a grassroots community based art therapy approach, explores ritual, safe spaces and discourse around trauma, gun violence and resilience. Creating healing and understanding through the symbolic act of connecting our segregated communities through the act of art making, memorial and intentional doll making. Please join us in making a Doll 4 Peace to memorialize victims of gun violence; simultaneously creating a memorial of resistance by crafting a doll. This therapeutic technique is a healing practice for self-care, empowerment, and purpose setting. Take time to breathe and honor the gift of life and acknowledge the baggage we carry as survivors, advocates, activists and community members collectively.
Please keep in mind that this is our last Second Sunday for this time period. Second Sunday runs from September – April and after today, the next Second Sunday will be September 10, 2017.
