Accomplished storyteller, Judith Heineman and artist/educator and co-director of SHoP (Southside Hub of Production), Laura Shaeffer curate a series of four storytelling competitions called Story Slams. Each event will explore a theme related to the exhibition. Join us for drinks, snacks and storytelling!
Today’s Theme: Sacrifice
Interpret the theme any way you wish. Do you sometimes feel like a lamb gone to slaughter?
What have you sacrificed? Or has someone sacrificed for you, perhaps saving your life?
Was yours or their sacrifice huge and public, written up in the papers, or something no one knows about but important to you nevertheless?
Did this sacrifice involve humans or animals, or both? Give us details. Have fun with this.
Format:
A story slam consists of five-minute true stories, told without notes or props. Ten people sign up to tell their stories. Their names are put in a hat and are randomly selected during the event. Preselected judges and audience volunteers score the tellers, who compete for prizes—first prize is a screen print of The Beast by John Preus.
