The Shine of Black Skin – Contemporary Silverpoint from a Black Artist’s Perspective

Join Center Program and Dream Exhibition Artist D. Lammie-Hanson as she discusses and demonstrates the age-old 15th Century technique, silverpoint, used by Leonardo DaVinci and his contemporaries for writing and sketching. In this workshop and discussion, Lammie-Hanson will examine how black skin can be portrayed in this medium in art in our present day and invite participants to experiment with silverpoint. Limited capacity, registration required.

About D. Lammie-Hanson

Harlem-born, Chicago-based self-taught artist, D. Lammie-Hanson, has devoted her life’s work to illuminating the resilient souls of underserved communities especially with the 15th-century technique, silverpoint. She was the winner of Regional Bombay Sapphire Artisans Series – New Orleans (2017) and the Jury’s Choice at GW Carver Interpretive Museum Dothan, AL.

In New Orleans, 22 of her silverpoints were published in the Times-Picayune Newspaper celebrating the New Orleans Tricentennial. She has exhibited at NOAAM, CAC, the Arts Council of New Orleans, the McKenna Museum of African American Art, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Art Center Highland Park and Gallery Guichard.
