Visiting curator Maria Arusoo will lead a workshop sharing recent and current projects and open up a discussion about her approach and curatorial practice.
Maria Arusoo is the director of the Center for Contemporary Arts Estonia and commissioner of the Estonian Pavilion at the Venice Biennial. Recent curatorial projects include “MEEL. VAHTRA. FARKAS_idealistic function” at the CAC (Contemporary Art Center of Vilnius (2015) and “Archeological Festival_ a 2nd hand history and improbable obsessions” at the Tartu Art Museum (2014).
Arusoo began curating in 2005, working on an artist-run gallery project in Berlin. In 2007, she relocated to London where she worked as a studio assistant for artist Martin Creed. In 2010, after graduating from Goldsmiths College with a MA in Contemporary Art Theory, she worked as a freelance artist and curator, organizing numerous exhibitions and conferences in Tallinn and London before receiving her current appointment at the Center for Contemporary Arts. Arusoo has published art criticism in leading newspapers and cultural publications in Estonia.
