Elke Claus: As Above, So Below

Artist and Art Center instructor, Elke Claus uses found and photocopied images, as well as translucent, fluorescent and metallic inks to bring a sensual and sculptural quality to a mass-produced medium. Through her unique printmaking process, Claus investigates the relationship between mechanical production and a human touch. As Above So Below featured new silkscreen prints and etchings with a celestial theme.

About Elke Claus

Artist and teacher Elke Claus has been creating silkscreen prints and etchings in Chicago for over 15 years. She holds an M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and B.F.A. from Rutgers University, both with a concentration in printmaking. She has extended her research abroad in printshops in Berlin (Kunstlerhaus Bethanien) and Trier (Academie der Bildene Kunst), Germany. Her artwork has been shown in group exhibitions both locally and internationally. Solo exhibitions of her work have been at institutions in Chicago, including Anchor Graphics and the Contemporary Arts Workshop, as well as the Krasl Art Museum (MI). Currently, Claus teaches printmaking at Columbia College, Lillstreet Art Center, and Hyde Park Art Center.
