Curated by Hyde Park Art Center staff, HOMEGROWN: Hyde Park Art Center’s Annual Student & Faculty Show showcased an array of styles and media from the collaborative projects from the cornerstone programs of the Center’s community outreach initiatives, and semester art courses. The work of more than 100 students of the Art Center’s youth programs, Hyde Park Art Center Faculty, and staff members were on display and for sale in the Ruth Horwich and faculty galleries.
Participating groups in the 1995-1996 outreach program included: Mark Sheridan School, South Shore Pre-School, William H. Ray School, Phillip Murray Language Academy, K-Starr Kellogg Elementary, Sullivan House, Akiba Svhechter Jewish Day School, Montgomery Place, Daniel Boone Elementary School, Arts Mentorship Program (Kenwood/Lab School), Hyde Park JCC, Learning Resource Center, Parent Co-Op, and Stateway Park.
As part of HOMEGROWN, the Hyde Park Art Center served as the final exhibition site for a traveling show of art work made by students from William H. Ray School, Murray Language Academy and St. Thomas Apostle School. Prior to being exhibited at HPAC, the pieces were shown at the 57th Street Art Fair and the University National Bank in Hyde Park. In addition to these works, the exhibition presented a series of cars produced by Ray School third graders made under the guidance of teacher Bill Salvato and artist/Ray School parent Nancy Bromberg.
