Linda Kramer Retrospective

Curated by Chuck Thurow, Hyde Park Art Center presented a retrospective of Chicago based artist Linda Kramer. The exhibition showcased Linda’s career starting with an early watercolor, Lady with a Hat done in 1949. The exhibition documented Kramer’s variety and quality as an artist. Although there is no simple linear evolution in the work presented there is a distinct divide. That divide falls between the earlier works that draw their inspiration from introspection to the later works that focused outside of her self at the world and its culture. Kramer’s style remained pluralistic through out her career and was evident in this exhibition. The later pieces exhibited in this retrospective also accounted for her ability to cross and break boundaries of traditional ceramic sculpture by combining ceramics with installation.
