Patrick McGee‘s site specific work U7, used the architectural elements of the Art Center’s Ruth Horwich Gallery, formerly located in the Beaux-Arts Ballroom of the 1929 Del Prado Hotel. The U7 exhibition was named after the mathematical notation for a cubeoctaherdon, a regular polyhedron. This Archimedian solid was the form investigated by McGee in his first solo show in Chicago at the Art Center. Patrick McGee’s sculptural work investigates both art and science. McGee is a Chicago based sculptor who has worked extensively with lightweight polyester cord, a material which is able to withstand the tension required to sustain his geometric structure.
