Selected Shots from Young Photographers

The exhibition highlights the best photography to date from nearly 30 budding young artists enrolled in neighborhood high schools including Kenwood Academy as well as other Chicago public high schools. Featuring both digital and 35mm photographs by young artists in their senior year, Selected Shots offers a selection of work that rivals the talent and skill of many professional photographers. The photographs in Selected Shots illustrate the students’ enthusiasm for the medium and their excitement to explore various genres, from portraiture and still life to more abstract and manipulated techniques. Selected Shots is curated by Benjamin Jaffe, a Chicago artist and the Advanced Placement Photography course instructor at Kenwood Academy.

According to Jaffe, “This year will be an exceptional year. Most of the students in the show have been with me for many years and have excelled in their respective skills. Many of the students this year have also participated in the HPAC collaborative program with Columbia College whereby our high school students get college credit for completing the coursework. As you will see this year we have a broad range of styles highlighting the diverse range of our student artists” The schools participating in Selected Shots are dedicated to providing students with a high-quality, comprehensive education that incorporates instruction in the fine arts. The lead school, Kenwood Academy, serves the Art Center’s immediate constituency and is committed to working in collaboration among students, parents, teachers, and the community to provide a quality education program.
