Curated by Ruth Horwich, this exhibition displayed the works of three artists who have been showing together since their graduation from the School of the Art Institute in 92′. The paintings of Doud, Gearan, and Trankina represented three different painting traditions: still life, interior landscape, and figure painting. Doud’s work focuses on portraiture while Gearan’s painting involved interior and exterior spaces. Trankina painted contrived still life’s that often featured animated toys. Through contrived framing devices and shallow depth of fields, the artists emphasize the intimacy and importance of their subjects and their settings while commenting on the state of contemporary society. Doud, Gearan, and Trankina met at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, from which they all obtained MFA degrees.
