A.J. McClenon: Notes from VEGA

Notes from VEGA features work derived from McClenon’s ongoing VEGA series that imagines an aqueous Black future, parallel universes and an escape route fleeing from anti-Blackness, climate change and the destructive forces of capitalism and systemic racism.

The METAMORPHOSIS of Gabriel Villa

Through an extensive studio and public art practice, Chicago-based artist Gabriel Villa seeks to seamlessly translate the language of Mexican traditions and the personal, urban American experience into charged intimate narratives. Villa’s subjects are ever evolving but always concentrate on psychological and social inequity in our multifaceted contemporary world. His stream of consciousness approach to painting and drawing expose the heightened reality found in everyday objects and places. Hyde Park Art Center is proud to introduce Villa’s new direction into installation, clay sculpture created during his Jackman Goldwasser Residency along with previous paintings.
