We are with you
To the Art Center Family:
We are with you in heartbreak, anger, fatigue and grief. We feel the pain of our community, especially our Black community. We at Hyde Park Art Center strive to be a place where people, particularly those who are surviving oppression every day, can be safe to process the world around them, to share their stories, to create and to live. While we are not able to physically be together, we are with you.
Today we take time to check in with ourselves. Today we take time to check in with our neighbors, friends, and families.
Tomorrow we will mobilize again as a community to heal, learn, provoke thought, create and thrive. We can look to art to give us space, fuel, and ideas; art reminds us that we are human in the face of inhumanity. The work may seem insurmountable, but tomorrow we will pick it back up together.

Upcoming Center Sunday
Every First Sunday of the month, Hyde Park Art Center is activated with activities throughout the center for the public, neighbors, and families. Join us for family friendly filled day with intergenerational art making activities, artist workshops, artist talks, open studios, curatorial tours of our exhibitions, and community collaborations. For the foreseeable future we are going virtual! Our next Center Sunday will be held on October 4 @ 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM.

Check out our Virtual Talk: How Do Artists Run Chicago?
In conjunction with our upcoming Artist Run Chicago 2.0 exhibition, we held a virtual talk with the Alma Wieser of Heaven Gallery, John H. Guevara of Chuquimarca, Erik Peterson of Compound Yellow, Eric May of Roots and Culture and Tracie Hall of Rootwork for a discussion about the early beginnings and evolution of creating and running an artist run space, sustainability, and the obstacles and rewards of being an artist run space. We will also be touching base on how COVID-19 will ultimately impact their work as cultural practitioners, and the financial and emotional impact the pandemic is having in reference to the art world.

Within its facility, the Art Center offers a comprehensive roster of programs that work in concert to make contemporary art more approachable. It does so by involving the community in dynamic engagement with art and artists through exhibitions, artist talks, studio art classes, an international residency program, free public events, and professional development opportunities for artists. Outside its walls, the Art Center’s outreach programs in historically underserved neighborhoods bring the visual arts to Chicago youth, their teachers, and their families.
By developing socially adept programming that finds new ways to engage diverse audiences in the work of Chicago’s artists, the Art Center makes space for transparent interaction with art and the artistic process, inspiring creative exploration and encouraging exchange between audiences and artists.
